How safe are Lithium-ion batteries?
Modern Lithium-ion batteries, such as the ones used in the Inogen and Airsep portable oxygen concentrators, are considered very safe.
The original Lithium-metal batteries used during the 1980’s and early 1990’s had a higher risk of failure (such as melting, burning or exploding). However during the 1990’s battery manufacturers stopped using Lithium-metal in their batteries and started using the safer and more stable Lithium-ion.
If your concentrator displays a battery error it may be related to overheating. Try removing the battery for 10-15 minutes and reinserting. If the message persists the concentrator may need a service.
